They are calling it Super Thursday. The Bank of England used to tease investors with a two week wait between its monthly interest rate decision and the publication of the minutes that led up to it. Today, for the first time, its publishing the decision, the minutes of the rate-setting meeting and its latest inflation report. And there’s a news conference 45 minutes later. The excitement’s great – yet no-one expects a rate change this month. Pharma company Shire plc falls on expectations that it will have to raise its $30 billion offer for Baxalta Inc, of the U.S. Pfizer Inc. is under scrutiny by the UK competition regulator, for allegedly overcharging for a key epilepsy drug. German sportswear maker Adidas soars as it says it has called in advisers to sell its golf club business.
