Ryanair Adopts Gemini Enterprise Across Crew Logistics and Flight Operations – Unite.AI
ShareShareShareShareShare

Ryanair, Europe’s largest airline, and Google Cloud announced a five-year partnership on August 12, 2026, under which the carrier will deploy Google Workspace and Google Cloud services to 35,000 employees and put Gemini Enterprise, Google’s agentic AI platform, to work on flight crew logistics, decision automation, and corporate productivity. The joint announcement frames the deal as infrastructure for Ryanair’s growth plan: 300 million passengers a year by 2034, up from roughly 216 million today.

The agreement has three operational components. Google Cloud will help Ryanair build a dual-cloud architecture so critical airline services can fail over between providers during an outage. Ryanair plans to use Google DeepMind models, including AlphaEvolve and WeatherNext, to assist fleet operations and maintenance scheduling. And the airline will replace its existing collaboration systems with Google Workspace, with Gemini integrated across the suite.

“To support this growth, we need to ensure we have excellent infrastructure resilience, and our new dual-cloud strategy provides this, alongside technology partners that match our speed and relentless focus on efficiency,” Ryanair CEO Eddie Wilson said in the announcement.

Google Cloud’s vice president for the UK, Ireland and Sub-Saharan Africa, Maureen Costello, said the agreement shows “how deploying generative AI at scale, coupled with modern collaboration tools for frontline workers, can help industry leaders scale securely, reduce operational costs, and redefine the travel experience.”

By the Numbers

  • Five years — the term of the partnership
  • 35,000 employees receiving Google Workspace and Google Cloud services across Ryanair’s network
  • 216 million guests a year currently carried on roughly 3,900 daily flights from 95 bases, across more than 220 airports in 35 countries
  • Almost 650 aircraft in the fleet, with 300 new Boeing 737s on order
  • 300 million passengers a year by fiscal 2034 — the traffic target the group says the new aircraft will enable

How the AI Layer Works

Gemini Enterprise, launched by Google in October 2025, is a conversational platform that connects a company’s documents, data, and applications and lets employees build and deploy AI agents grounded in that internal information. For an airline running about 3,900 flights a day, the stated application is automating elements of operational decision-making, with crew logistics named as a first target. Crew logistics is one of the three uses named in the announcement, alongside decision automation and corporate productivity.

The DeepMind models named in the agreement point at two distinct jobs. AlphaEvolve is Google’s evolutionary coding agent, which Google has applied to hard optimization problems of the kind embedded in fleet and maintenance scheduling. WeatherNext is DeepMind’s weather-prediction model family; for an operator of Ryanair’s scale, forecast quality feeds directly into flight planning, diversion decisions, and disruption recovery.

The resilience component is architectural rather than algorithmic. The announcement describes a dual-cloud strategy in which Google Cloud’s multi-cloud services let critical systems adapt if one provider experiences problems. Per the announcement, the design lets critical airline services quickly adapt if one cloud platform experiences issues, keeping flights and customer services running without interruption.

What Happens Next

The Workspace rollout to 35,000 employees replaces the airline’s existing collaboration systems, though the announcement gives no deployment timeline. The planned AlphaEvolve and WeatherNext work on fleet operations and maintenance scheduling is described as an intention rather than a shipped system, so the first observable milestone will be those models appearing in live operational planning. The longer dated marker is Ryanair’s traffic target: 300 million passengers a year by fiscal 2034, carried on a fleet growing by 300 new Boeing 737s.
