Wall Street traders may be distracted today as Mets fever is taking over New York. The Mets swept the Cubs to win the National League Pennant and head to the World Series for the first time since 2000. American Express (AXP) saw a 16% drop in profits, the latest multinational company to be hit by the strong U.S. dollar. American Express’s lucrative deal to be the exclusive credit card provider for wholesale club Costco (COST). In response to that deal ending, American Express CEO Ken Chenault says it will invest more in marketing, incentives and technology to attract new card members. Valeant Pharmaceuticals (VRX) is defending itself against allegations that have rocked the stock this week. It is denying allegations of improper accounting from Citron Research, an investor who is betting against the company. Existing home sales are released. Mead Johnson (MJN) and Mattress Firm Holdings (MFRM) meet with analysts.
