Facebook has apologized to one of its users after its ‘Year in Review’ app featured photos of the man’s young daughter, who passed away in June on her sixth birthday. The year-end feature gathers users’ most popular photos from 2014 into a timeline with the caption, ‘It’s been a great year! Thanks for being a part of it.’ Web designer and writer Eric Meyer took to a blog post after seeing his daughter featured in his timeline. He said, ‘It feels wrong, and coming from an actual person, it would be wrong. Coming from code, it’s just unfortunate.’ The product manager for the Facebook app, Jonathan Gheller, told the Washington Post, ‘[The app] was awesome for a lot of people, but clearly in this case we brought him grief rather than joy. We can do better.’
