It’s decision day. The Federal Reserve settles the great debate on interest rates today. It appears to be a close call but Barclays is among the firms saying the Fed is unlikely to increase interest rates. Barclays says the labor market has improved but the recent tightening of financial conditions and greater uncertainty about inflation as reasons the Federal Reserve will stay put today. The decision will be announced at 2 pm Eastern Time and Federal Reserve Chairwoman Janet Yellen will hold a post meeting news conference. Reports say General Motors (GM) has reached a settlement with the Justice Department over the issue of faulty ignition switches that led to over 100 deaths and hundreds of injuries. GM could pay as much as $900 million, according to reports. French telecom giant Altice will buy Cablevision (CVC) for $17.7 billion, including debt. Cablevision has 3.1 million customers.
