Starbucks Corp. SBUX has a big opportunity in China, and we’re about to learn all about it in Starbucks’ earnings report after the closing bell Thursday. Analysts are expecting business as usually in the U.S., with sales growth in the country of about 2-3%, so this begs the question: will China sales have started to take off this quarter? Is the reported slow down in the Chinese economy already hitting the wallets of Chinese consumers, which would be a headwind to Starbucks’ sales?
We won’t leave you hanging on the big event of the day: Apple Inc. AAPL earnings. Apple reports after the closing bell Thursday as well. One of the big keys to look out for in Apple’s earnings print is which iPhone model Apple leaned most heavily on for sales. It’s been reported that the more expensive $1,000 phone hasn’t been selling well, which would prompt Apple to focus more on selling the lower priced Xr (less than $800) in high volumes, which would bring the average selling price for the quarter down. This quarter could tell us something about iPhone demand in general, although of course, Apple has launched seemingly countless initiatives to compel iPhone users to use the various service platforms Apple is now investing in.
