Apple (AAPL) is hiring journalists for the Apple News team, according to a posting from June 12 on the company’s jobs page. Apple said it’s looking for ‘passionate, knowledgeable editors to help identify and deliver the best in breaking national, global, and local news.’ Some of the publishers already signed up to provide content to Apple News include the Financial Times and the New York Times (NYT). Apple said it’s looking for not only ‘great instincts for breaking news,’ but it wants its editors to be ‘equally able to recognize original, compelling stories unlikely to be identified by algorithms.’ That’s a departure from the methods of companies like Flipboard, which relies on algorithms to aggregate content. Announced last week at its Worldwide Developers Conference, the News app is expected to hit Apple iPhones and iPads this fall on iOS 9.
