Wall Streeters and hedge fund managers, known for their impressive wine cellars, would feel right at home in midtown Manhattan this week, where wine lovers descended on a wine tasting like no other. Wine Spectator Magazine is holding its 35th New York Wine Experience, a fundraising event catering to oenophiles. ‘The Wine Experience is held every year and it really is the premier event in the industry. It brings together top wineries from around the world and thousands of committed consumers who are just passionate to taste these wines,’ explained Thomas Matthews, Executive Editor of the magazine. From French Bordeaux to California Chardonnays and a lot more in between, the bottles were opened, poured and enjoyed at Thursday’s Grand Tasting event. Some of the wines retail for close to $1,000 a bottle. Two hundred sixty seven wineries from around the world were represented at Thursday night’s sold-out tasting event. Tickets ranged from $267 for one night of tastings, to nearly $2,200 for a three day pass. TheStreet’s Rhonda Schaffler reports from New York.
