Volkswagen shares plunged more than 20% in European trading after it told U.S. dealers to halt sales of some 2015 diesel cars, following regulators discovery that the software it designed for the vehicles gave false emission data. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency said the car company used the software to deceive regulators into believing its cars met EPA toxic emission guidelines. Volkswagen could face fines of up to $18 billion. Apple (AAPL) says it’s cleaning up its IOS App store to remove malicious iPhone and iPad programs identified in the first large scale attack on its app store. The company says several cyber security firms found the malware, dubbed ‘Xcodeghost’ that was embedded in hundreds of legitimate apps. Shareholders of both Charter Communications (CHTR) and Time Warner (TWX) cable will vote today on their proposed $56.7 billion merger.
