U.S. stocks opened lower Friday as the Labor Department stunned Wall Street with a majorly disappointing September jobs report. The U.S. created only 142,000 jobs last month. The unemployment rate held steady at 5.1%. Job growth in July and August was also revised lower. Treasury yields reacted swiftly, plummeting to 5 month lows. Novocure (NVCR) shares priced at the low end of its IPO range. Calamp (CAMP) reported better than expected earnings. Staples (SPLS) says it will buck the retail trend and will not open on Thanksgiving day this year. It has been open the previous 2 years but says it wants employees to spend time with their friends and families. It’s going to be a big weekend at the box office. The Matt Damon and Ridley Scott film ‘The Martian’ (FOX) opens and is expected to take in $56 million. Lions Gate Entertainment (LGF) will expand ‘Sicario’ to a wide audience, with a more than 2,500-theater release. The film, led by Emily Blunt, had the best opening in terms of revenue per locations two weekends ago.
