Though Presidential hopeful Donald Trump may believe that going to a military boarding school in his youth was akin to serving in the U.S. Armed Forces, his fame and presidential aspirations aren’t doing much for his alma mater: New York Military Academy. The school, which is situated on 77 acres overlooking the beautiful Hudson River in Cornwall-on-Hudson, filed for bankruptcy in March. After a sale to another school fell through, the 126-year old prep school, where parents once sent their wayward sons (it is now co-ed), New York Military Academy has been looking for buyers. Now, the school is asking the bankruptcy court to approve its hiring Hilco Real Estate to take care of an upcoming auction process and market the property. Besides where the school buildings are situated, it also owns 35 acres of adjacent vacant land. The Academy already has interest in the property, including from Global Preparatory Academies that has put in a bid that local news reports pegged at a little more than $13 million. Though the Academy would like a school to continue to be operated on the site, Hilco noted in a statement that the location and nature of the property could also be good for residential, medical or government uses. Besides Trump, the Academy also boasts composer Stephen Sondheim and filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola among its alums.
