Lauryn Williams and Lolo Jones, American track stars of the summer Olympics who have made the transition to the bobsled team in Sochi, highlight the disparity in earning potential between athletes in popular sports and those in more obscure terrain. Beyond athletic sweat and grit, it creates a financial scenario of the haves and have-nots. Track and field athletes are compensated handsomely with higher prize potential and sponsorship opportunities. Their endorsements can easily be in the six-figures, whereas their teammates struggled to rub two nickels together.
