“Morning Joe” host Joe Scarborough went on a fiery rant against Democrats, shouting that party leaders were permitting the most controversial voices to gain prominence because they are “too woke to call out the obvious.”
The MS Now show ran a clip of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s (D-NY) Sunday appearance on ABC’s “This Week” in which she was pressed about her decision not to endorse Francesca Hong, a democratic socialist candidate in the Wisconsin gubernatorial race who once called for abolishing the police, prisons — and even Thanksgiving.
Ocasio-Cortez evaded the question, while rambling that Hong had “moved away” from many of those old positions. She then said a New York City councilman has a great line for it — “Woke 1 was crazy.”
Scarborough ripped into the congresswoman’s dismissive response, arguing that there’s “no great conspiracy” behind renewed criticism of the Democratic Socialists of America, citing the success of New York City’s far-left Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
The host praised Mamdani as someone who’s “proven to be, I think, extremely pragmatic in many ways,” while also calling out his high approval rating, the lowest murder rate “on record” and a “thriving” economy.
“But you also have [DSA] people in New York City that have been saying some whacked-out things,” Scarborough continued.
“I think most mainstream voters would say they’re whacked-out things, when they’re talking about going to pro-Hamas rallies the day after Hamas slaughtered more Jews than on any day since the Holocaust. I think 90% of Americans would think that is abhorrent.” he said.
“And so, you know, again, they’ll try to blur the lines – ‘Oh, well, they just don’t support healthcare for all’ – no, no, we’re not saying that. We just [don’t] support hate speech,” Scarborough continued.
The host then turned to the 2024 election, noting that Democrats failed to confront culturally divisive issues that Republicans were able to weaponized successfully against former Dem presidential candidate Kamala Harris.
“You couldn’t watch an NFL game without seeing 300, ‘Taxpayers are going to pay for trans surgeries for convicts’ ads,” he said, arguing that the messaging moved working-class male voters across all demographics toward President Trump.
He said that Democrats could campaign on an economic populist message, namely, higher taxes on billionaires and healthcare reform –“something that most Americans would agree with.”
“But please, I don’t need people telling me, ‘Oh, you have to just turn a blind eye to people saying that women getting raped on October 7 didn’t matter, in the grand scheme of things.’ No, Americans aren’t going to support that.”
He turned back to Ocasio-Cortez, saying she and the other Democrats are “once again fumbling the football on the two-yard line when they have a chance to make great gains but being so woke – I don’t know if you want to call it woke 1, woke 2 or woke 3 – but being too woke to call out the obvious!
“I swear to God, it’s really – it’s crazy that we’re even having this conversation!,” he shouted, before adding that Democratic leaders like Sen. Chuck Shumer and Rep. Hakeem Jeffries of New York should be willing to call out extreme rhetoric and demand candidates distance themselves from it.
“We’re bringing this up now because it seems an awful lot like what was happening in 2024, when Democrats couldn’t get out of their own way to win an election they should have won!” Scarborough concluded.
