Investors beware: next week’s Brexit vote could rock U.S. stocks. ‘I think it could pose risks to U.S. markets,’ said Dean Maki, chief economist at Point72 Asset Management, based in Stamford, Conn. Polls suggest UK citizens favoring a Brexit outweigh those preferring to remain in the European Union. The referendum is held on June 23. In a press conference on Wednesday following the release of the Federal Reserve’s June policy statement, Chair Janet Yellen said the Brexit vote played a role in its decision not to raise interest rates. She said Britain leaving the European Union could have consequences for the outlook of the U.S. economy. ‘I don’t think Brexit would cause a U.S. recession,’ Maki said. ‘I think if the markets go into a swoon as a result of a positive vote to leave, that could affect the Fed’s July rate hike decision.’ TheStreet’s Scott Gamm reports from Wall Street.
