Mona Mahajan, Head of Investment Strategy, Edward Jones, explains the biggest investing mistake and how to avoid it.

CAROLINE WOODS: What’s the biggest mistake that you’re seeing investors make right now?
MONA MAHAJAN: Yeah, absolutely. And I think certainly in these first few months of the year, there were a lot of emotionally charged investment decisions that were made. And it’s a great call out because really it’s such a 101 mistake people don’t think they’ll actually do. But when they read the headlines, they see the news. They see the dramatic moves in the market. They feel compelled to do something. And in many cases, trying to get out of the market or trying to time the market. We know investors are notoriously not great at doing either. And I always say, if you’re trying to get out of the market, have two decisions to make when to get out and then when to get back in. So we say stay the course. Long term investing. We know Warren Buffett has said when others are fearful, that’s the time to be greedy and vice versa. So we adhere to all those principles.
