Due to ongoing tensions between the U.S. and its trade partners, fewer Canadians are traveling to the states.

Kelsey Barberio: As tensions increase between the U.S. and Canada over tariffs — Canadians are starting to boycott coming to the states. That trend is troublesome, given the United States already has a $51 billion travel deficit. That means Americans are spending far more abroad than foreigners do when they visit here.
According to a report from Jeffries, 72 million people visited the U.S. last year — 28% were from Canada, more than any other country in the world. But the Trump Administration’s new trade policies are having an adverse effect on U.S. travel and tourism.
When asked to respond to the declining travel rate, a White House spokesperson said Canadians “will no longer have to endure the inconveniences of international travel when Canada becomes our 51st state.”
The U.S. travel and tourism industry brings in more than $1 trillion in direct spending each year.
