Shokz just introduced the OpenFit Air 2 earbuds, a refresh of the original model. These earbuds are around 17 percent lighter than the previous version, clocking in at 7.2g per unit. That’s around the same weight as a handful of paperclips.

This is an open-ear design, which delivers a couple of benefits. First of all, there’s no ear canal pressure, as the earbuds don’t create a seal of any kind. The design also gives users quicker access to their surroundings, making them a decent choice for exercising outside in a busy city. As a matter of fact, the standard Shokz OpenAir 2 earbuds easily made our list of the best headphones for running.

The only potential downside to this form factor is that they connect via an ear-hook. The ergonomic design ensures long-term comfort, with a caveat. These ear-hooks could get in the way of glasses and certain hats. Take a look at photos and decide for yourself.

Otherwise, the company promises “richer bass” and “fuller sound.” The earbuds use the company’s proprietary Bassphere audio driver and its OpenBass 2.0 algorithm. There’s an angled speaker that directs audio toward the ear for a “more natural listening experience” and an app with access to four preset EQ modes and two custom EQ profiles.

The OpenFit Air 2 earbuds last eight hours per charge, with up to 36 hours of use when considering the included charging case. They also offer a 10-minute quick charge that gives three hours of playback. This model integrates with Bluetooth 6.1 and allows for multipoint connections. They will be available to purchase on August 27 for $130.

Shokz also just introduced the OpenRun Air 2 earbuds, which feature a design that wraps around the back of the head. These are also lighter than the previous iteration, with an overall form factor that prioritizes stability and minimizes bounce. After all, these are for runners.

They use a bone conduction driver and also connect to the company’s app for EQ adjustments. The battery lasts ten hours on a single charge, with a five-minute quick charge for two hours of playback. The OpenRun Air 2 earbuds are also available on August 27 and, lo and behold, also cost $130.
