Apple (AAPL) is planning to collect user DNA to assist medical research. According to the latest reports, Apple won’t have access to the results or do the actual collecting but will collaborate with two different ResearchKit apps to guide and coordinate the process. It’s the latest step in Apple’s move to integrate digital health into its devices. Apple’s ResearchKit software platform already helps hospitals collect survey data from users to assist medical studies. The new DNA testing apps could now make the Iphone a groundbreaking tool for genetic research. Apple is not alone in its DNA quest, Google (GOOG) and the US government are also working to amass large scale genetic information to assist medical research. Reports suggest that Apple plans to present its DNA App studies at its developers conference in June.
