European stock indices are mixed, with core euro-zone indices helped by a bigger-than-expected decline in German joblessness and positive news on the German consumer sentiment. German drug maker Bayer and French utility GDF Suez gain on upbeat prognoses for 2015, and in Milan medical devices maker Sorin surges on an inversion-inspired merger with Houston’s Cyberonics. In London emerging markets focused lender Standard Chartered bows to the inevitable and announces the departure of its once highly respected CEO, with the bank’s chairman following soon after.
