Hewlett-Packard’s head of security products Art Gilliland says cyber attacks, like the one at Target late last year, highlight the need for more skilled workers in the IT security space. Gilliland says the latest figures show there is a 40-percent vacancy rate in IT security jobs in 2014 and a 58-percent vacancy of jobs at the supervisor level. HP, along with the Ponemon Institute, also found roughly 56-percent of companies do not have chief information security officer as part of their C-Suite team. Gilliland says companies are also competing with each other on the pay front where the competition for talent is fierce and some aren’t able to offer competitive salaries.
