Famed rapper Snoop Dogg lost more than 500,000 followers on Instagram followers and nearly 20,000 on X after his appearance at the Crypto Ball, a celebratory event tied to Donald Trump’s inauguration.
The “Gin and Juice” singer’s Instagram dropped by 571,800 and 17,177 on X as fans accused Snoop of hypocrisy due to his past criticism of Trump.
Snoop Dogg, who boasted 88.1 million followers on Instagram as of Monday, isn’t the only A-list celebrity to have followers abandon him in droves over perceived support for the Republican president.
Kim Kardashian, the reality television star and entrepreneur, lost nearly 150,000 social media followers after she posted an image of First Lady Melania Trump wearing a stylish outfit at the inauguration.
Snoop Dogg’s performance on Jan. 17 elicited significant backlash from fans and commentators, according to social media marketing firm Viralyftm which analyzed the decline.
Critics highlighted his previous anti-Trump stance and speculated that financial incentives might have motivated his participation.
“Shaking and crying as i unfollow snoop dogg on all platforms,” one alienated fan wrote on X, adding “sad face” emojis.
“How could he turn on us?” the fan wrote.
Another Snoop fan lamented: “Gotta unfollow anyone that perform for Trump. Luv me some Snoop Dogg, but gotta go bro.”
“Damn, I had to unfollow Snoop Dogg today smh he broke my heart,” wrote one X user.
In response to the criticism, Snoop Dogg addressed the issue on Instagram Live, stating, “Y’all can’t hate enough on me. I love too much… Still a black man, still 100 percent black.”
Notably, other artists like Nelly and Carrie Underwood also participated in inauguration-related events — a trend that signals a more nuanced approach by entertainers eager to separate politics from professional engagements.
Last year, Snoop Dogg appeared to warm to Trump, telling the Sunday Times: “Donald Trump? He ain’t done nothing wrong to me.”
“He has done only great things for me. He pardoned Michael Harris.”
During Trump’s first term, he granted clemency to Michael “Harry O” Harris, co-founder of Death Row Records, who had been serving a 25-year-to-life sentence for drug trafficking and attempted murder.

Kardashian, who counts Ivanka Trump as a friend, successfully lobbied the then-president in 2018 to commute the life sentence of Alice Marie Johnson, who was incarcerated for drug dealing.
