A breakup of Campbell Soup may be the best recipe for the food giant to revive investor interest, as shoppers increasingly turn their noses up at the company’s core simple meals and beverage offerings. The decrease in both sales and volumes for products such as Campbell’s canned soup, Swanson frozen dinners, and other canned, jarred and boxed cuisine is the latest evidence that the unit is losing ground to its competitors. A spinoff of Campbell’s natural and organic businesses, consisting of Bolthouse Farms and Plum Organics, into a new company, and putting its global biscuits and snacks division up for sale would be ways of boosting the company’s valuation.
