KELSEY BARBERIO: Despite President Donald Trump continuing to hit the country’s trade partners with steep tariffs, global shipping giant Maersk posted strong Q2 earnings.
Maersk is often viewed as a barometer of global shipping.
The company raised its full-year guidance, and said it expects global container market growth to be higher than previously anticipated. All of that comes despite what’s happening in the U.S.
So where is the volume coming from? Maersk’s CEO told CNBC “A lot of it is driven by a manufacturing boom in China and strong export growth pretty much everywhere in the world except for the U.S. during this quarter, where the tariff-on, tariff-off has had some dampening effect.”
The U.S. currently has tariffs of between 10% and 50% on dozens of its trade partners.
