The USPS is raising prices on holiday shipping.

CAROLINE WOODS: Heads up, early holiday shoppers! Your gifts just got more expensive to send.
The United States Postal Service is hitting us with a temporary price hike just in time for peak season.
The increases kick in on October 5 and run through January 18 of next year. They’ll affect four key services: Priority Mail Express, Priority Mail, Ground Advantage, and Parcel Select.
The USPS says the changes are needed to cover extra handling costs and keep the holiday rush running smoothly.
So what’s the damage? That depends on what you’re mailing. Retail customers could see increases from 40 cents for a small, nearby package to as much as $7 for a heavier, cross-country shipment.
Using a Priority Mail Large Flat Rate Box? Expect a $1.45 jump.
The silver lining: Forever stamps aren’t affected, so your Christmas cards are safe.
But if you’re on a budget… May I suggest in-person gift exchanges?
