Demand for luxury designer Lilly Pulitzer’s limited line for Target (TGT) overwhelmed the retailer’s stores and Web site on Sunday. Target spokesman Joshua Thomas said there was so much demand online, the company had to make its Web site inaccessible for 15 minutes to restore it due to an overload of traffic. Thomas said the line was virtually sold out online by early Sunday morning, causing more shoppers to move to retail locations, where lines formed hours before stores opened. That left a lot of shoppers unhappy. Thomas said Target apologizes to guests who were unable to access the Web site and said the company is learning from this experience to carry out future limited edition designer collaborations more efficiently.
