A Picasso Painting Fetched $179 million dollars at an auction at Christie’s Monday night, the most ever paid for a work of art at auction. The 1955 painting entitled “Women of Algiers” surpassed the $142 million paid for a Francis Bacon work two years ago. Gap (GPS) sales were hurt by the strong U.S. dollar. It’s brands also saw weak sales, suggesting the retailer’s turnaround will take longer than expected. Comparable sales fell 10% in the recent quarter. An FDA Advisory Committee will consider approval of Vertex Pharmaceuticals (VRTX) experiment Cystic Fibrosis drug today. The drug, Orkambi, could help it earn $30 billion in 4 years.
