Washington often takes itself too seriously, making it ripe for much-needed satire, said Congressman Steve Israel, author of ‘The Global War on Morris.’ Israel added that Congress is at its most hilarious when its members are not attempting to be funny. Israel said he came up with the idea for his comic novel about a Long Island drug salesman who is mistaken for an enemy spy after he learned in a national security briefing that the Pentagon had accidentally spied on innocent Quakers. Finally, he said most Americans have a low opinion of Washington right now, so his book will likely offer more laughs than harm.
