OnlyFans most lucrative side hustle for freelancers: report
ShareShareShareShareShare

Workers looking to supplement their paychecks with a side hustle are raking in the most bucks on adult site OnlyFans, according to a report.

With budgets tight and inflation high, those stripping down on the site made a median annual income of $4,995, according to the tax filing service Keeper, which looked at a sample of approximately 2,200 who submitted W-2 and 1099 forms last year.

Nearly two in five Americans have a side hustle, according to a recent survey from Bankrate.

The haul on OnlyFans, launched in 2016 as a subscription-based social media platform that allowed sex workers to post content behind a paywall, beat out moonlighting at Walmart as well as food delivery services Instacart, GrubHub and DoorDash.

A side hustle with Walmart provided an additional annual income of $3,677, according to Keeper.

An Instacart delivery driver earned a median annual income $3,445, while GrubHub contractors pulled in $3,085 per year, according to Keeper.

DoordDash workers earned a median annual income of $2,636.

Working for Amazon Flex, which offers drivers a chance to deliver packagers for the e-commerce service, generated a median annual income of $3,229.

Uber and Lyft were not as lucrative.

Drivers for Uber pulled down a median annual income of $2,092 while Lyft drivers made $1,551.

OnlyFans exploded in popularity during the COVID pandemic, though it has sought to pivot away from explicit content in hopes of expanding its appeal to more conservative audiences while avoiding the ire of regulators looking to crack down on online smut.

Since its founding, OnlyFans has paid out more than $8 billion to its creators.

In 2021, OnlyFans walked back plans to ban sexually explicit content from its site after creators erupted in anger, saying the move would threaten their main source of income.

In early 2022, mainstream lenders such as Wells Fargo terminated the bank accounts of several high-profile individuals in the sex industry without so much as offering an explanation.
