A New York Stock Exchange security officer who led more than one hundred workers out of the World Trade Center during 9/11 reflects on the day when he acted on instinct and saved lives. Oliver Howard was assigned to security at World Trade Center 2. On September 11, he heard a loud explosion when the first plane hit World Trade Center 1. Howard says while workers in the second tower were told to remain in their offices after the attack, he ignored that and immediately evacuated three floors of workers to safety. ‘My natural instinct and training told me basically to evacuate because there is no way we could have stayed in that building,’ he explained. ‘Howard was later honored by the NYSE for his actions.
