European stock indices rise, with confirmation of the expected slowdown in Chinese growth boosting hopes among mining investors of government stimuli. In Europe investors are waiting to hear what European Central Bank boss Mario Draghi has to say after today’s policy meeting, and digesting the terms of Nokia’s agreed $16.6 billion, all-share purchase of Alcatel-Lucent, a deal which, contrary to expectations, the French government seems to like. Also in France, spirits maker Remy Cointreau gains on better-than-expected full-year sales figures and evidence of a fourth-quarter recovery.
