Earnings leverage has been pushing shares of Newmont Mining higher even as the price of gold has declined, said Marian Kessler, portfolio manager for the Becker Value Equity Fund. Kessler added that Newmont has also improved its balance sheet considerably and has benefited from the decline in oil prices. She is also bullish on AT&T, saying the telecom has substantial and growing free cash flow in addition to a healthy dividend yield. Finally, Kessler said she is positive on Viacom because it trades at a huge discount to its peers and is also one of the best content creators in the market.
