New York City woke up to inches of snow this morning, not feet. Amid apocalyptic warnings of a “historic” and “life threatening” snowstorm, the world’s financial capital turned into a virtual ghost town Monday night, stemming from the city’s strict 11 p.m travel ban, which allowed only emergency vehicles on roads and shut down the city’s subway system, an unprecedented move. The subway system reopened at 9am, though officials say it will take hours for service to resume normal operations. Trading resumes as usual, with the New York Stock Exchange, Nasdaq and NYMEX operating on a normal schedule. TheStreet’s Scott Gamm reports from New York.
