Given that the casual dining chain Shake Shack goes public today, we take a look at competitor McDonalds …..It’s today’s chart of the day. Shake Shack goes public today and begins trade at a range much higher than initially expected. Its been the same story for similar casual dining chains that have gone public in the last two years and had stupendous first trading days. El Poco Loco, Potbelly, Noodles to name a few. McDonalds in the meantime has made multiple changes to its menu, and keeps losing ground. Sales have been declining for months, even as companies are charging twice as much as McDonalds for a burger. Truth be known, the consumer is demanding healthier, fresher food, and a company like Chipotle, which was part of the McDonald’s empire until 2006, has been the big winner. If you look at El Poco Loco and Potbelly, despite their frothy beginnings, are trading near 52 week lows because there is still a lot of competition out there when it comes to fast food dollars. McDonald’s is trading off its 52 week high around 88 dollars a share. At its peak in the last year, its traded as high as 104 dollars a share.
