New SoCal In-N-Out Burger location planned for West LA

It’s a battle of the burgers.

In-N-Out is drawing up big plans for a new restaurant in West LA, and it’s right around the corner from a storied local burger joint.

Last week, the company filed a permit with the City of Los Angeles to demolish a strip of existing buildings at 2927-2969 Sepulveda Boulevard in Rancho Park to construct a new 3,890 square-foot drive-thru restaurant with outdoor dining.

Just off the 405-10 interchange, the new restaurant would place In-N-Out in direct competition with another California-founded burger spot, Hamburger Habit, who sits just around the corner at 1123 National Avenue.

Several businesses are currently housed in Sepulveda Boulevard buildings In-N-Out plans to raze, including Honesto Café, Banter Bar, a hair salon, nail salon, boxing studio and a tattoo shop.

The burger behemoth’s as-yet-approved plans would require zoning approval to allow the continued use of residential-zoned land behind the property for parking.

The company also requested a conditional use permit to allow a drive-through adjacent to a residential property. According to the filing, the new restaurant would result in an additional 500 of more daily vehicle trips to the parking lot.

First opened in 1990, Hamburger Habit prides itself on its “real” ingredients, like french fries made with cholesterol-free Canola oil. The restaurant, which was once dubbed the “Best Hamburger in Southern California” by KABC 790, maintains a retro vibe with 50s-style red and white interiors — much like In-N-Out.

The California Post reached out to In-N-Out for comment and Hamburger Habit for comment.

Plans for the new location come just months after In-N-Out’s plans to build a new restaurant in Culver City were put on ice after the City Council placed an emergency 10-month moratorium on new drive-thru restaurants.

The proposed restaurant sparked swift response from the community, who feared the restaurant would bring increased traffic, long lines and polluted air to the area.
