National CineMedia Inc.’s $375 million agreement to buy private equity-backed Screenvision may push the target’s 20% stakeholder, Carmike Cinemas Inc., in play. Carmike will be attractive to the three bigger movie exhibitors AMC Entertainment Inc., Cinemark Holdings Inc. and Regal Entertainment Inc. now that a major barrier discouraging a takeover has been removed. An existing 30-year exclusive exhibition agreement between Screenvision and Carmike was essentially stopping potential buyers from taking action, however that contract will be lifted following the fusion of the two cinema ad companies.
