Marvin Kalb took over as sole moderator of “Meet the Press” from 1985-1987, after working as an NBC News correspondent for 30 years. Before taking his leave of the show for a professorship at Harvard, Kalb said, “Our democracy is a very precious national asset that is most healthy, most admirable when there is open and vigorous exchange.”
