Shares of General Motors (GM) tumbled to end Wednesday’s regular trading session in negative territory after the company issued a couple of recalls on its cars, making it TheStreet’s Move of the Day. GM announced that it is recalling 196,000 Hummer SUVs worldwide. The automaker plans to fix the motors function on ventilation fans, which have been reported to overheat, and in the worst case spark a fire. The company has reported three minor burns because of the problem. the vehicles’ heating and air conditioning blower motor speed can overheat if operated for a longer period of time. The second recall is for about 51,000 subcompact cars in North America. GM needs to fix more than 50,000 Chevrolet Sparks and Sonics cars, due to an issue that disables some warning functions. Shares of GM ended Wednesday’s regular session down more than 5 percent to on nearly double its average trading volume. The stock was declining further into the red in after-hours trading.
