The current management of the New York Mets should do more to embrace the iconic World Series champion 1986 team members, as well as other former Mets players, says Mookie Wilson, author of “Mookie: Life, Baseball, and the ’86 Mets”. Wilson says the Mets also mishandled troubled and talented players Doc Gooden and Daryl Strawberry early in their careers. Finally, Wilson says he would have beaten Bill Buckner to first base in Game 6 of the 1986 World Series even if Buckner fielded the ball cleanly.
