Caroline Woods: While it couldn’t stop its release, Meta is trying to stop further sales of a new book written by a former employee. The tell-all memoir by Sarah Wynn-Williams entitled “Careless People” was released on March 11 – it chronicles her 6-year tenure with the company and details several unflattering allegations.
Meta pushed back against Wynn-Williams and the book’s publisher – claiming “This is a mix of out-of-date and previously reported claims about the company and false accusations about our executives.” The company also says the book violates Wynn-WIlliams’ non-disparagement terms of her severance agreement.
The arbitrator in the case sided with Meta, saying the company would suffer “immediate and irreparable loss.” He also sided with Meta on the grounds of the non-disparagement agreement.
Some of the details of the book include allegations of sexual harassment by a high-ranking company official, as well as Meta’s attempts to break into the Chinese market – including ways it would try to appease the Chinese Communist Party.
