Markets close mixed after disappointing earnings from companies such as Travelers, Johnson & Johnson and Verizon. The Dow finished lower while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq were both higher. Fourteen companies posted results today, with IBM to report after the closing bell. Offshore markets were mostly higher after the People’s Bank of China said it would boost liquidity in its commercial banks. Markets are expected to be more sensitive to earnings this week given the light schedule for economic releases. TheStreet’s Jane Searle reports from New York.
