Songbird Estates rises as its board reluctantly bows to a hostile $3.9 billion bid from Qatar Investment Authority and Brookfield which will give them ownership of Thatcher-era financial center Canary Wharf in East London. Commodities “disruption” becomes a theme of the session, with Anglo American warning of imminent writedowns, Australia’s Bradken losing a bid and OZ Minerals effectively inviting offers.
