A royal expert has revealed how the King’s public appearance on Easter Sunday could help the Princess of Wales as both royals undergo treatment for cancer.

The managing editor of Majesty magazine, Joe Little, said the “hugely encouraging” event would help draw the focus away from Kate.

“I think people accept and understand that the Prince and Princess of Wales and their family are on Easter holiday now and that they need their privacy… [to] just get on with being a family,” he said. “I think whatever the King has done today wouldn’t have been with that specifically in mind, but it certainly helps.”

Charles’s attendance at the annual Easter Mattins Service at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle on Sunday morning was his most notable public appearance since he announced his cancer diagnosis in February.

Afterwards, the 75-year-old monarch surprised onlookers by greeting gathered members of the public, who later said he “looked good” and was in “high spirits”.

The Prince and Princess of Wales did not attend with their children – Prince George, Prince Louise and Princess Charlotte – as the family are spending the holiday together after Kate announced her cancer diagnosis just over a week ago.

King’s Easter Sunday public appearance a ‘form of reassurance’, expert says

The King’s public appearance on Easter Sunday will be a “form of reassurance” to people in the wake of the royal family’s recent health announcements, an expert on the monarchy has said.

Charles, who is undergoing treatment for cancer, smiled and waved at crowds as he arrived for the annual Easter Mattins Service at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle on Sunday morning.

The managing editor of Majesty magazine, Joe Little, said the “hugely encouraging” event would help draw the focus away from the Princess of Wales, who disclosed just over a week ago that she had started a course of preventative chemotherapy.

Kate’s uncle Gary Goldsmith praises handling of cancer diagnosis

Gary Goldsmith, Kate’s maternal uncle, has praised the Princess of Wales for her adept handling of her cancer diagnosis announcement in an interview with the Spanish show ¡De Viernes!.

“I have been in touch with my sister Carole [Middleton] to make sure my niece is okay. I thought Kate handled it incredibly well, especially in such a difficult and tricky situation.

“I don’t know anybody else who’s had to deal with something like that, deal with their children and then have to offer explanations to the national and international media in such a public scenario.”

He continued: “It’s hard to imagine that they haven’t been affected by so many comments and conspiracy theories. I have sent messages to Kate so she knows what I feel and the love I have for her.”

King Charles’ future ‘looks very positive’ as he sees ‘encouraging’ results from cancer treatment

King Charles is said to be responding well to his cancer treatment, with his road to recovery looking “very positive”, as he appeared “looking well” on Easter Sunday.

The 75-year-old monarch was making his first major public appearance having been diagnosed with an unspecific form of cancer in January.

His attendance at the Easter matins service in Windsor, followed by greeting members of the public, was reportedly a result of a change in doctors’ guidance due to him responding “very encouragingly” to treatment.

A Palace source stressed that the King’s treatment remained ongoing and that caution remained the “watchword”, but it was hoped he could make further appearances over the summer.

“Nothing will be confirmed until nearer the time, plans remain in flux and are subject to medical guidance, but there is great hope and optimism from both doctors and the patient,” the source told The Daily Telegraph.

Archbishop delivers Easter message about Princess of Wales

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, delivered a message during his Easter Sunday sermon that acknowledged the cancer struggles of King Charles and the Princess of Wales.

“In each of our lives, there are moments which change us forever,” he said.“We’ve watched and sympathised with and felt alongside the dignity of the King and the Princess of Wales, as they have talked of their cancer, and in doing so by their lack of selfishness, by their grace and their faith, boosted so many others,” he said.

He delivered his message at Canterbury Cathedral in the English county of Kent.
