Iran has issued evacuation warnings to two Israeli news channels as it prepares retaliatory strikes following an attack on its own state broadcaster.
Iran’s national broadcaster on Thursday said Israel’s Channel 12 and Channel 14 will be targeted with missile strikes in the coming days, according to a screenshot shared by Press TV, an Iranian state-backed broadcaster.
In its statement, Iran accused right-wing Channel 14 of being a “terror network” for its support of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“This order comes in response to the hostile attack of the Zionist enemy against the Islamic Republic of Iran’s broadcasting service,” Iranian state TV said.
Channel 14 broadcasts from Tel Aviv, which has been hit by Iranian missiles in the past week. Channel 12 is headquartered in Jerusalem.
The warning follows an Israeli strike on Iran’s national broadcaster on Monday that forced a news anchor to flee during live coverage, as seen in shocking camera footage.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz had vowed that the “Iranian propaganda and incitement mouthpiece is on its way to disappearing.”
Video footage showed a female anchor sprinting from the studio as explosions were heard after Israeli forces bombed the headquarters of Iran’s state broadcasting network.
It is unclear how many employees were injured or killed in the attacks. Iranian media reported that at least one worker was killed.
The Israeli Defense Forces had urged residents living near headquarters to evacuate ahead of the bombing.
The two nations on Friday continued to trade airstrikes, one week after Israel launched on a preemptive strike to take out Iranian nuclear and military targets.
President Trump has signaled the US is still weighing whether or not to join Israel in the strikes.
He said Thursday that he would decide whether or not to attack Iran “within the next two weeks.”
In an interview with Israel’s public broadcaster, Netanyahu on Thursday said Israel is capable of reaching its goals targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities with or without Trump.
Iran’s Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Wednesday warned the US that intervention would result in “irreparable damage to them” and that “the Iranian nation is not one to surrender.”
