The market’s future is growing ‘cloudy’ and that’s causing investors to get jittery, said Mike Loewengart, director of investment strategy at E*Trade. ‘After the remarkable run in equities that we have experienced coming out of the financial crisis, investors now are expecting a pullback,’ said Loewengart about the results of E*Trade’s Q3 StreetWise survey. ‘They see mixed economic data and geopolitical events weighing on the markets and that is influencing their thinking about where the direction of the market is going.’ E*Trade’s Q3 StreetWise survey was conducted from July 1 to July 12 of 2015 among an online U.S. sample of 1004 self-directed active investors who manage at least $10,000 in an online brokerage account. According to E*Trade’s survey, many investors compare their ‘cloudy’ feelings toward the markets to movies such as Dazed and Confused (29%) and Easy Rider (20%). Meanwhile, nearly two in five investors (39%) predict the equity markets will stay relatively the same over the next three months which is equal to the amount (39%) who think the market will experience a correction (drop in 10% or more), according to the survey.
