IBM is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its mainframe technology but also has an eye on the future, targeting cloud and mobile as key growth areas for its System z offerings. IBM executive Steve Mills tells TheStreet’s James Rogers that the mainframe has emerged as the platform of choice for next-generation banking, citing, in particular, System z support for mobile banking in Africa. Mills also sees mainframes as a good fit for service providers and enterprise private clouds.
