Hurricane Irma Already Impacting the Economy Before Landfall

Shares of Insurance companies, who provide property and casualty coverage in Florida were hit hard. Orange juice futures also soared on worries that Hurricane Irma will destroy trees. American Airlines ( AAL ) canceled flights to the Caribbean and South Florida. The NFL has postponed the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Miami Dolphins game Sunday. Bloomberg is reporting that FEMA is almost out of money. HPE’s ( HPE ) stock is higher after beating earnings expectations. The results come after the company slimmed down and cut costs. Also, CEO Meg Whitman left no indications that she would be leaving the company for Uber or anywhere else. Facebook ( FB ) is being accused of inflating its ad reach. A Pivotal Research Group analyst says Facebook’s ads manager claims a potential reach of 41 million 18-24 year olds and 60 million 25-34 year olds but U.S. Census data shows that last year there weren’t even that many people in those age groups.
