Sorry HBO, there’s a new kid in town.
Streaming service Hulu swept the 2017 Emmy’s with its adaption of Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale. The dystopian series took home the Emmys for Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series among other categories.
The win for Outstanding Drama Series marks the the first win for a streaming service in the category. Does that mean Hulu is leaving Netflix and its huge investment in original programming in the dust?
Probably not, considering Netflix took home the Emmys for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series and Outstanding Writing for a Limited Series, Movie or Drama.
It looks like the streaming services are taking the battle for your browser to the red carpet, making binge watchers everywhere the real winners. Here’s to looking forward to the 2018 Emmys.
