Impulse shopping is big business for retailers during the holiday season. Ninety percent of holiday shoppers make purchases that are not on their list. Sticking to your budget can be challenging, especially when stores are trying to get you to spend as much as possible. To avoid impulse shopping, make sure to shop with a list. Avoid the displays stores set up to highlight items that are not on your list. Use cash instead of credit cards to help curb impulse shopping further. Research products ahead of time so you know the value and quality of an item, rather than falling prey to store pricing strategies. And if all else fails, if you find yourself excited by a sale item that you weren’t planning to buy, do a lap around the store before putting it in your cart. Research shows the most satisfying part of bargain hunting is anticipating the deals. Give your brain fifteen minutes to relax and resume thinking logically, and you’ll be far less likely to have buyer’s remorse later.
