China Online Education Group (COE) debuted as a public company on the New York Stock Exchange Friday, priced at $19 a share. In midday trading, the stock rose to $19.33. Jimmy Lai, the company’s CFO, said the company was looking to go public not for the proceeds, but more for the branding value of being traded on a major exchange. ‘This is a challenging market environment,’ Lai said. The company is the largest English-online training platform in China. TheStreet’s Scott Gamm reports from the floor of the New York Stock Exchange.
