CAROLINE WOODS: A dispute could soon pull Fox channels off YouTube TV.
YouTube and Fox are in talks to renew their content deal, but negotiations have hit a snag. Fox is reportedly demanding “far higher” payments than other partners providing similar programming.
If the two sides can’t strike a new agreement by 5 p.m. Eastern on August 27th, subscribers could lose access to popular channels including Fox Sports, Fox Business, and Fox News. And that’s bad news for football fans. With the NFL and college football seasons kicking off, that means customers could potentially miss games.
YouTube says it’s pushing for a deal that’s fair without passing extra costs onto subscribers.
And if the blackout continues past the deadline, YouTube TV says it will provide affected members with a $10 credit for the loss of channels.
This standoff comes at a time when streaming platforms are under pressure to balance costs with subscriber value.
